Horse Riding Westfjords Tour

The Sandá River Riding tour will take you through the lush Sandá Valley and allow the tranquil river where you can experience the Icelandic countryside and up-close wiews of the "Westfjords Alps", while getting acquainted with our frindly Icelandic horses. The tour is easy walking pace, providing the perfect opportunity to get comfortable in the saddle, enjoy thw view, and take photos. 

Meeting point: This tour departs from Simbahöllin Café in the cozy town of Þingeyri which is 40 minute drive from Ísafjörður. 

Season: 1. June - 31. August

Departure: 10:00 and 13:00 every day 

Duration of trip: 2 hours

Number of participants: Min 2 - Max 8 persons.

Included: Guide, horses, helmets, saddles.

Trip Difficulty: 2 (out of 5 possible).

Price: 9.900 ISK per person.

Before embarking on our journey we give you time to become acquainted with your new Icelandic companion. Once saddled up, we will explore the valley by crossing the waters of the Sanda river and strolling through the lush green meadows. Throughout the journey we will stop to allow the horses to graze in the landscape that surrounds us. We will continue on along the river’s edge until we encounter the sea. Before returning to the stables, we will guide you along the pristine and unique blacksand beach.
  • Warm woollen or fleece clothing including top, bottoms and socks. Please avoid cotton as it keeps you cold when wet and takes a very long time to dry.
  • Sturdy shoes, no flip flops!
  • Sunhat, sunglasses and sunscreen, it can get sunny up here!
  • Water bottle.
  • Don’t forget your camera!
