Enjoying life. Hiking in Lonafjordur, West Fjords of Iceland

From Spring to Fall we have your Westfjords experience covered, with a variety of excursions ranging from Ski Trips, and breathtaking views of the Northern Lights to sea kayaking, hiking, and an abundance of nature and wildlife in Hornstrandir.  Join us for trips camping in the wild, staying at our farmhouse in Kvíar or sailing around on the Aurora. Along with our existing itineraries we invite you to talk with us in helping you customize the perfect trip for your dream adventure.

From March to the end of May, Spring skiing is in full affect. We offer backcountry skiing trips in the Glacier Fjords, an exhilarating experience, skiing between fjords with the mountains to ourselves. The open range keeps us moving from mountain to mountain, rarely staying anchored in one spot for more than a night.  It’s an extraordinary experience made even better by the views, food, and atmosphere on board the Aurora and at the farmhouse in Kvíar with our top-notch guides and crew.

We offer an array of trips during the summer, taking you on adventures sailing, sea kayaking, hiking, and camping.  With our diverse selection of trips around the Westfjords, you can take in the sites from any angle.  Join our experienced guides on sea kayaking excursions, camping under the midnight sun.  Hike and learn about the nature and wildlife of Hornstrandir with a specialist in the field. Take a journey aboard the Aurora where you can do it all while experiencing the Westfjords at its fullest. All these exciting activities come together to form an experience of a lifetime.

With our expeditions in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve we set our sites high, offering experience and knowledge wherever we go.  With local highly experienced guides and nature specialists from the West Fjords Natural History Institute, we make sure nothing is missed. Taking in astonishing views of the millions of sea birds around two of the biggest bird cliffs in the North Atlantic. With keen eyes we help you find the best spots to photograph the nature and wildlife of Hornstrandir. Always keeping a look out for arctic foxes, seals lounging on the rocks or peeking up from the sea, and if we’re lucky, whales and rare sea eagles.

Customized trips and expeditions can be provided to different areas in Iceland, East coast of Greenland and Jan Mayen. Ísafjörður is strategically well situated when thinking about expeditions to Greenland. We are 250 nm from both Kangerdlugssuaq fjord and Scoresby Sound and only 180 nm from the closest point on the Blosseville coast. Jan Mayen is 440 nm away. Drop us a line and tell us about your dream trip.

Whether you’re onboard the Aurora, at the farmhouse in Kvíar or camping, full accommodation and provisions (food and beverages - except alcohol) are provided for all skiing, kayaking, and hiking trips. We take pride in preparing nutritious and delicious meals from local ingredients, such as fresh seafood, lamb, salads and bread. There will also be plenty of fruits, yogurts etc. Wine and beer may be served with dinner and you may bring your own drinks to be consumed in moderation. This is only permissible when the anchor is down for the night or camp is set up and the day is completed on land. We cannot allow excessive drinking onboard or during trips. As these are expedition style trips not "cruises", guests are encouraged to help in food preparation, doing dishes etc. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know well in advance.

Please contact us by phone or email if you can't find exactly the trip schedule you are looking for. We are always interested in discussing different variations to itineraries and themes to creatively customize trips to fit the wishes of each group.

Welcome to the website for Borea Adventures, Iceland, your number one stop for Arctic adventures in high latitudes. We provide great adventures and expeditions in Iceland, Greenland, East Greenland, Jan Mayen and Svalbard (Spitzbergen), mainly using our spacious yacht, the Aurora. Our philosophy is to make our trips as silent as possible where we minimize the use of motorized power and encourage physical activities, whether sea kayaking, climbing, sailing, walking and hiking, wildlife, ski touring and backcountry skiing for beginners, experts and people of all ages. The North Atlantic is our playground and we offer scheduled trips for individuals and groups as well as customized itineraries and charter for groups. We travel in harmony with the wildlife of the area: Arctic Foxes, Birds, Seals, Whales and Polar Bears. Aurora is a sturdy expedition yacht and was raced four times around the globe as part of the Clipper Round the World yacht race under the ownership of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. She gives us a great opportunity to provide Arctic adventures in areas that are hard to reach otherwise. We call her our floating basecamp. Our name is derived from Greek mythology where Boreas was the god of the north wind. Aurora on the other hand was the Roman rosy-fingered goddess of dawn. Aurora Borealis is a name for the Northern lights which are common in our area. As we humans have proven through the decades, names can be hard to remember. Especially if a bit of alcohol gets passed around the galley too many times! You might spell our name Boreal Adventures, Borial Adventures, Borea Adventrues and Borealis Adventures. Thank you for visiting Borea Adventures.
