Local events for 2007

Swamp Soccer in Isafjordur
Swamp Soccer in Isafjordur

We have made an effort to tie our trip schedules to local events in the Isafjordur area. These can be local festivals, sports events etc. We try to encourage our guests to extend their stay in Iceland and participate in other activities before or after our trips. Our good friends at WEST TOURS (Vesturferðir) are more than happy to assist you with travel or hotel bookings all over Iceland. Here is a list of some of the local events......

April 1-9th Easter Ski Week in Isafjordur. For decades the locals have celebrated easter by enjoying a healthy mix of outdoor activities and culture. Ski all day in the mountains and attend a classical concert in the church at night...

April 7th 'Aldrei for eg sudur' music festival in Isafjordur. Mugison and Papamug came up with the idea of this rock festival where they would mix local talent with more famous acts. This turned out to be huge success and is definetely something you don´t want to miss.

April 29th Fossavatn Ski Marathon. One of the oldest running sports events in the country. Since 1935 hardy cross-country skiers have raced a 22 km course in the mountains. Recently more options have been added and now you can race 7, 10, 20 or 50 km classic style. This is now a true family activity with more and more international visitors competing every year.

July 19-22nd Outdoor Creatures Festival of outdoor activities is held every summer in Isafjordur. This ties together hikes, sailing, kayaking and other outdoor activities for everyone. Last year we had a kite-surfing course, mountain bike tours, camp fires etc.

August 4-5th Swamp Soccer. A great event 'imported' from Finland. The European Swamp Soccer Championships will be held in the first weekend of August. See this great article about this years event in the Reykjavik Grapevine.

Of course there are all kinds of other things going on throughout the summer: local harbour festivals in the neighbouring communities, Act Alone theater festival in Isafjordur etc etc.

Make sure to check in frequently as we will keep an updated list on this site.

"The most wonderful trip, perfect weather, blue skies, whales, seals, porpoise, so many birds and the arctic fox appearing “on cue”. "

"The wilderness is in us all but few can touch or be touched by it. Thank you Siggi and Runar for letting Aurora expand our horizons and perhaps for letting us look into our souls.  ..."

Welcome to the website for Borea Adventures, Iceland, your number one stop for Arctic adventures in high latitudes. We provide great adventures and expeditions in Iceland, Greenland, East Greenland, Jan Mayen and Svalbard (Spitzbergen), mainly using our spacious yacht, the Aurora. Our philosophy is to make our trips as silent as possible where we minimize the use of motorized power and encourage physical activities, whether sea kayaking, climbing, sailing, walking and hiking, wildlife, ski touring and backcountry skiing for beginners, experts and people of all ages. The North Atlantic is our playground and we offer scheduled trips for individuals and groups as well as customized itineraries and charter for groups. We travel in harmony with the wildlife of the area: Arctic Foxes, Birds, Seals, Whales and Polar Bears. Aurora is a sturdy expedition yacht and was raced four times around the globe as part of the Clipper Round the World yacht race under the ownership of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. She gives us a great opportunity to provide Arctic adventures in areas that are hard to reach otherwise. We call her our floating basecamp. Our name is derived from Greek mythology where Boreas was the god of the north wind. Aurora on the other hand was the Roman rosy-fingered goddess of dawn. Aurora Borealis is a name for the Northern lights which are common in our area. As we humans have proven through the decades, names can be hard to remember. Especially if a bit of alcohol gets passed around the galley too many times! You might spell our name Boreal Adventures, Borial Adventures, Borea Adventrues and Borealis Adventures. Thank you for visiting Borea Adventures.
